As someone who’s never been to pride and also had the kneejerk “why have kink shit at pride, kids are there” reaction, I think people should read more about pride and think long and hard about what the word pride in relation to LGBT people really means. Also read into “public indecency” laws and how they heavily targeted LGBT people even those who WERE behind closed doors. There’s a lot that we younger lgbt people don’t know and it would behoove us to try learning more and unpacking the homophobia and transphobia that we’ve internalized. Also think about why you don’t worry this much about say Mardi Gras when you can find very similar things happening.
